Network Element Configuration Backup Script
Here's a script I put together to save configurations and then back them up. Thus far, it will support most Cisco devices and certain load-balancers. It uses perl to fire off SNMP commands that save them locally, draw them off to a TFTP server, and then archive them on a daily basis. It runs well as a cron job, but you're welcome to use it as you wish.
Quick-Tip: Free Up Hard Drive Space
It's amazing how quickly you can fill up a hard-drive, especially if you're a power-user. ISO's, Zip file's, and truckloads of family footage can bust the seems of any hard drive in an eye blink. I had run across a utility that helped visually identify where all the space was going and thanks to a recent post on Lifehacker, I've had a friendly reminder of where to find it.
Geek Tool: Data Calculator
Remember that high school chemistry class where you learned stoichiometry? The same math applies to converting bits to bytes, figuring out how many bytes can be transferred in a given amount of time given a certain amount of bandwidth, and how long it would take to transfer a file based on size and bandwidth. I've had about all the fun one can have by manually doing this, so I wrote a web-based calculator. My intention is to add additional functionality as time goes on.
